Sports have evolved quite a bit since the ancient Greeks wrestled, raced and risked it all for a laurel wreath. The original organizers of those Olympics could never have foreseen things like sponsorship or stay-to-play policies, nor could they have imagined the technology that would go into the design and construction of sports facilities in centuries to come. This issue of the magazine studies not just the facilities that host sports but the issues that drive the industry’s continued evolution.
