Cue the Stampede: NCAA Announces Championship Bid Process

Cue the stampede to the Outlook calendar, where everyone will be marking these dates. The NCAA has announced it expects to be accepting bids for championships across a range of sports for the academic years 2026-2027, 2027-2028, 2028-2029 and 2029-2030. This is for a total of 86 of the 90 NCAA championships each year.

Sports in which championships coming up for bid are as follows:

  • Basketball
  • Bowling
  • Cross Country
  • Fencing
  • Field Hockey
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Gymnastics
  • Ice Hockey
  • NCAA BidsLacrosse
  • Rifle
  • Rowing
  • Skiing
  • Softball
  • Soccer
  • Swimming & Diving
  • Tennis
  • Track & Field – Outdoor
  • Track & Field – Indoor
  • Volleyball
  • Volleyball – Beach
  • Water Polo
  • Wrestling

Note: The full document detailing not only each sport, but division and applicable school year, can be found here.

The timeline for events is as follows:

  • July 19, 2023: Bid specifications will be published on www.ncaa.org/bids; Bid portal opens August 29, 2023: Host symposium hosted at NCAA national office (Information is found here; registration is required and the event is free)
  • February 7, 2024: Bid responses due
  • March-September 2024: Committee deliberations, recommendations and approvals
  • October 22, 2024: Hosts/sites announced
