Tri-Cities, WA: Discover the Unexpected

Welcome!

In the Tri-Cities, 300 sun-filled days offer visitors a year-round outdoor playground and an extended sports season. Conveniently located within reach of four major Pacific Northwest metro areas, the Tri-Cities is a land of discovery where a thriving culinary scene, celebrated world-class wineries and endless outdoor activities come together. Our community partners and dedicated Sports Council have a proven record of welcoming sporting events and providing a one-stop-shop resource for event organizers.

At first glance, the Tri-Cities may seem like an unexpected sports destination, but its unique blend of outdoor beauty, diverse athletic opportunities and growing infrastructure make it an emerging hub for athletes, families and fans alike.

Unlimited Outdoor Adventure
Framed by golden hills and the convergence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima Rivers, the Tri-Cities is an aquatic playground like no other. Here, the rivers invite boating, water-skiing, swimming, fishing, paddleboarding and kayaking year-round.

Along the shoreline of the Columbia River, 27-miles of paved trails welcome walking, jogging and cycling, while unpaved paths promise off-road adventures.

The Heart of Washington Wine Country
One sip of a local vintage reveals why the Tri-Cities is trademarked the "Heart of Washington Wine Country ®.” With more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, Tri-Cities is the place for unforgettable grape-to-glass experiences, shaped by sunshine, soil and spirit.

Unwind with Sunny Skies
Thanks to a high-desert climate, the Tri-Cities enjoys mild winters and warm, dry summers—ideal for tournaments and training nearly year-round. From March through November, athletes count on favorable conditions, while the region’s abundance of sunshine adds to the appeal for both indoor and outdoor sports.

Unforgettable Family Fun
Between games, families can dive into adventures of every kind. Try axe throwing or mini golf, or explore the “edutainment” side of the Tri-Cities. Step into an active archeological dig site, uncover the history of the Manhattan Project or gaze at the universe inside the CPCCo Planetarium, home to the most advanced projection system in the Pacific Northwest.

Experience Triathlons and Endurance Events
The Tri-Cities has earned its reputation in the endurance sports world, thanks in part to IRONMAN 70.3 Washington in Richland. Calm river waters, vineyard-lined bike routes and scenic runs make it a must on the global triathlon calendar. The region also regularly welcomes marathons, cycling tours and duathlons, drawing athletes who seek challenge with a stunning backdrop.

Tournament Hot Spot: Emerging Sports Culture
The Tri-Cities is investing in sports. New complexes, upgraded parks and improved facilities are strengthening the region’s place as a rising star in sports tourism.

Year after year, the Tri-Cities play host to state and regional championships. Highlights include the National Softball Association’s annual Ice Breaker tournament that has featured over 100 teams, the Washington State High School Cross Country Championships that have been held in Pasco for more than three decades and the Northwest Athletic Conference Basketball Championships and Volleyball Championships at Columbia Basin College’s Student Recreation Center.
