It's time for Sports Destination Management to recognize sports tourism leaders who have contributed to the industry of sports tourism. We need your help to salute those who have helped sports tourism grow to be the nearly $50 billion industry it is today.
We are looking for successful events that have made an outstanding economic impact. This includes all types of sports events, at all levels of play. Big or small - from the largest sporting event in the world to an event that took up every hotel in town - we want to know about it.
Get started by nominating now at this link.
And when we say we want to know about it, we mean it! Here are a few of the questions we often hear from people when they’re on the fence about entering an event:
“How do I know my event qualifies for awards?”
If your event made a positive impact on the host community in any way, it qualifies! Our winners aren’t just those big national and/or international events, they’re championships, tournaments and games at a regional, state or even local level. Our events have even included bike rides that cover a specific area, a local esports tournament and a crossword puzzle championship held in a hotel ballroom.
Awards are given according to market size (small market, mid-market, large market), PLUS there is a special “Innovations in Sports Tourism” section, in which SDM recognizes in which event owners and destinations showed creativity and ingenuity in creating a successful and enjoyable experience for championships. We even have a special “Hall of Fame” for events that have won in successive years.
“Who has won awards in the past?”
Glad you asked! Our archives are open and you can check out awards presented in 2021 (covering 2020 and 2021), 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015.
“How much does it cost to enter?”
Nothing. Our awards program is offered to the entire industry free of charge.
"Can I enter more than one event?"
Of course! Enter as many times as you'd like!
"What if we won an award previously; can we enter again?"
Yes, we encourage you to enter again this year.
“When do we hear if we’ve won?”
We will reach out to our winners separately, but the industry as a whole learns who has won when winning events are published in our November/December 2022 issue. Here’s a copy of last year’s issue, with winners listed.
“What if I have more questions?”
Please feel free to e-mail our editor here.
