Hartford Marathon Foundation Announces Evergreen Adventure

The Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) is encouraging the community to get outside and explore state parks in Connecticut and Rhode Island this August as part of the new Evergreen Adventure, presented by Webster Bank. The program features 20 parks to hike, walk or run, and kids 11 and under can enjoy the Wild With Miles scavenger hunt and parks passport.

As part of an ongoing partnership with Webster Bank focused on the environment, the Hartford Marathon Foundation created the Evergreen Adventure to encourage the community to explore and appreciate sustainable activities that highlight the region’s natural resources. In a continued commitment to sustainability, in addition to its sponsorship of the program, Webster Bank will donate up to $5,000 to the East Coast Greenway by contributing $10 for every registered participant in the Evergreen Adventure.

“There’s no better time to explore the many great destinations we have to run, walk and hike right here in Connecticut and Rhode Island. We want to encourage people to enjoy moments of solitude in nature or get their family or small groups of friends together to keep moving safely outdoors while many typical summer activities and travel remain restricted,” said Beth Shluger, Hartford Marathon Foundation CEO and founder. “We appreciate the continued partnership with Webster Bank to support fitness programs that provide incentives for participants to be active while respectfully and sustainably enjoying our region's natural resources.”

In addition to Webster’s $10 donation made on their behalf, registered participants will receive an Evergreen Adventure neck gaiter appropriate to use as a face covering, and access to an online toolkit for the 20 park destinations.  The toolkit includes:

  • Information on 20 park destinations in Connecticut and Rhode Island, including Burr Pond State Park, Hop River State Park Trail and Seth Low Pierrepont State Park Reserve in Connecticut; and East Bay Bike Path and Beavertrail State Park in Rhode Island.
  • A list of “Places Webster Loves,” including favorite places to eat, drink and explore near each park curated by local Webster bankers.
  • Digital badges for each park that participants can post to their social channels to encourage more park visits

“Evergreen Adventure is an opportunity for us to further expand upon Webster’s commitment to sustainability and our environment,” said Brian Runkle, executive vice president, Operations,

Webster Bank. “And because we live in the communities we serve, our bankers are able to offer great suggestions for how adventurers can support local businesses while they are out enjoying our state parks.”

Participants may register to join the program anytime through August 2020. Registration is $15 for adults, and $10 for children 11 and under to enjoy the Wild With Miles companion program.
