Fifteen Tris Aimed at Beginner Triathletes and Seasoned Veterans Alike

Following a successful inaugural season, fifteen beginner-friendly events from across the United States will comprise the second annual USA Triathlon Retro Tri Series in 2014.

More than 700 athletes participated in the Retro Tri Series in 2013, at events geared toward adult and youth competitors ages 13 and older. Each race will feature a 300-400 yard swim, 5-10 mile bike and 2-5 kilometer run, and participants are welcome to wear retro-themed attire to celebrate triathlon's early roots in the 1970s.

Events in the Retro Tri Series focus on participant fun rather than competition, and some of the events are not timed. The aim of the events is to introduce the sport of triathlon and educate race participants about the healthy and active multisport lifestyle. The events are open to first-timers, seasoned veterans and those looking to stay active, all while swimming, biking and running in a safe atmosphere. Each event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.

Seven of the 2013 events are again on the schedule for this year, and each of USA Triathlon's 10 regions are represented on the schedule.

"Partnering with USA Triathlon for the 2013 Retro Tri Series was one of the best decisions I made as a race director," said Angie Kandalaft, Owner of Chasing 3 Timing and Race Productions and organizer of the Rio Grande Retro Sprint in Albuquerque, N.M. "The race was upbeat and exciting, fun for all abilities and the athletes completely embraced the theme and made it their own. From age-group elite competitors to first-timers, our race is an opportunity to simply enjoy participating."
