World Sailing, the international governing body for the sport of sailing, has released a new RFP, and it should be of great interest to coastal destinations.
With the 2026 Offshore Double Handed World Championship to be held in Marseille, France in September 2026, World Sailing is seeking bids to continue to build on the success to date. Currently, it is seeking proposals from those who want to host the Offshore Double Handed World Championship from 2027 through 2029.
For those not familiar with sailing terminology, here’s the 411: Double-handed sailing is defined as operating a boat with a crew of only two people aboard.
The event is a key aspect of Navigating Offshore, World Sailing’s plan to support offshore sailing.
The Offshore Double Handed World Championship, which uses supplied equipment, offers opportunities to promote accessibility, gender equity and sustainability.

Matt Allen, Oceanic and Offshore Chair said, “The event provides a unique opportunity to showcase the growing international appeal of double handed racing and promote the host venue or city around the world.”
World Sailing recognizes that venues have different needs and facilities as well as the complexities posed by the requirement of supplied equipment and encourages interested parties to contact World Sailing to seek clarification on requirements related to the event.
World Sailing will consider bids for multiple consecutive years.
