El Paso, Texas: The sweet spot for sports

Awesome sports facilities ensure the most out of your stay.

Sports event planners have discovered El Paso is sun soaked, warm and always ready for kickoffs, tip-offs and starting guns. Our venues excel at basketball, track and field, baseball and soccer, as well as some of the best golf in the Southwest. Additionally, we continue to create new venues and improve our existing fields, parks, courts, lanes, pools and diamonds.

Eastside Natatorium

The 92-acre park is home to our newest natatorium that houses a 50-meter competition-ready pool with all the required amenities to host regional meets at this facility. It includes a diving well, spectator seating for 800 spectators, sufficient pool deck area for 400 competitors, warm-up and cool-down pools, an office, trainer rooms, locker areas, public restroom facilities, a pool equipment room, a janitor’s closet, storage, IT rooms and other support space.

Our natatorium was created to offer a world-class environment for local swimming organizations, as well as state and high school swimming competitions, while allowing for recreational swimming activities, including water polo and fitness swimming.

The recreational pool (Aquatic Center) area consists of an outdoor pool with water and tube slides, a climbing wall, a lazy river, splash pads and other water amenities, including family picnic areas and other shaded areas.

Westside Natatorium

The $15.5-million natatorium features an Olympic-sized swimming pool housed within a 35,000-square-foot facility, which was designed and constructed to be certified LEED Silver. The facility provides a competition-quality natatorium for the citizens of El Paso to enjoy, including free Wi-Fi provided by Digital El Paso.

The 50-meter pool is a state-of-the-art competitive swimming facility catering to area swimming organizations as well as state and high school swimming teams.

This project is an integral component of the El Paso Parks and Recreation department’s Aquatics Plan. It is just one of the city’s efforts to modernize aquatics facilities across the city to provide El Pasoans of all ages with water-based activities for recreation and health while improving their quality of life.

Eastside Sports Complex

Opened in July of 2020, the Eastside Sports Complex is situated on 42.2 acres of land and includes the following services and amenities:

  • Seven sodded irrigated competition flat fields and one championship-style field
  • shaded seating to accommodate 500 spectators
  • fencing to maintain control access
  • a new hike and bike trail along the perimeter of the park

The complex also includes new ADA-compliant restrooms, parking and sidewalks, as well as a sheltered area with picnic tables and benches, which allows food trucks to serve visitors and spectators during competitions or events.

Westside Sports Complex

201 Isela Rubalcava Ave.

This series of 13 natural-turf fields is prime for football, soccer or softball use. Permanent concessions and public restroom facilities are just the beginning. This 2009-constructed complex spans 57 acres in far west El Paso. With more than 1,000 free parking spaces, it’s a natural choice for your tournament. The complex is ideal for local, regional and state tournaments.

Southwest University Park

This 7,500 fixed-seat, downtown ballpark is home field for the El Paso Chihuahuas Triple-A baseball team and the El Paso Locomotive FC soccer team. The newly completed $74-million park has state-of-the-art field construction combined with amenities like 23 luxury/party suites. The park can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators and can handle national play in a variety of sports, including baseball, softball, soccer and rugby.

Sun Bowl Stadium

The nationally televised college bowl game of the same name happens every December, when teams and fans from the ACC and PAC 12 fill this 51,000-seat stadium to capacity. The rest of the year, it’s home to the University of Texas at El Paso Miners. Its strengths go way beyond football, however, with capabilities of hosting soccer, championship boxing, lacrosse and rugby. El Paso’s year-round beautiful weather makes it a signature stop on major concert tours as well. The Sun Bowl’s wealth of parking, concessions, press facilities and its 88,008 square feet of field space are hard to equal.
