Major League Baseball (MLB) has confirmed that Colorado will host this year’s All-Star Game after the annual showpiece was moved from Atlanta in response to Georgia’s new voting law.

The All-Star Game and MLB Draft were originally slated to take place at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, but league commissioner Rob Manfred announced last week that the organization would be relocating the fixture to “demonstrate our values as a sport”.

The Midsummer Classic, which sees the best players from the American League (AL) division take on a team from the National League (NL), is now scheduled to take place at the Colorado Rockies’ Coors Field on July 13.

“Major League Baseball is grateful to the Rockies, the city of Denver and the state of Colorado for their support of this summer’s All-Star Game,” said Manfred. “We appreciate their flexibility and enthusiasm to deliver a first-class event for our game and the region. We look forward to celebrating our sport’s best players and entertaining fans around the world.”

MLB noted in an announcement that Colorado had been selected to replace Atlanta in part because the Rockies had started the process of bidding for a future All-Star Game, including supplying plans for hotel, event space and security that had taken months to assemble.

In addition, the league said state governor Jared Polis and Denver mayor Michael Hancock have ‘both committed to provide the necessary facilities and services needed’ for this year’s game.

Greg Feasel, the Rockies’ chief operating officer, added: “We are confident that our organization along with the city, state, Visit Denver and the Denver Sports Commission are capable of putting on this premier event in a relatively quick time frame because of the preparations that had already been done.

“Summer in Colorado is something everyone in the country should experience, and we embrace this opportunity to show off our beautiful ballpark and everything our city, state and region have to offer.”

Colorado will now host the All-Star Game one year before the event goes to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, with Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park already pencilled in to stage the matchup in 2026.
