The Roebbelen Center @the Grounds Can’t Wait to Welcome Athletes

May 12, 2021

The Roebbelen Center located @the Grounds opened its doors in February of 2020 on time and on budget, a month before a nationwide shutdown of events. The incredible $34 million project houses 160,000 square feet of indoor space, including 12 basketball courts/24 volleyball courts, a flexible lobby, 35-foot ceilings and multiple meeting rooms with views to the courts.

In the weeks before the shutdown in March 2020, the Roebbelen Center was able to host two major Northern California Volleyball Association events, bringing over 100 teams and generating over 600 hotel room nights in the surrounding area. Although the center is currently operating with very limited events due to COVID-19 restrictions, once allowed to fully operate, the upcoming schedule looks promising with some great events already booked.

Though no one anticipated a worldwide pandemic to disrupt 2020, many of the existing features of the event center allowed for a safe and quick pivot operationally. The building is equipped with a state-of-the-art air filtration system and portable telescopic bleachers for optimal seating and social distancing. Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus and there is a hardline Internet connection for all types of live streaming needs. In recent months, the facility has been home to a variety of trade shows and swap meets, making the best out of a difficult situation and taking advantage of the large indoor space to social distance vendors and attendees.

@the Grounds’ 55-acre campus takes full advantage of the year-round beautiful weather. Though the standout feature of the Roebbelen Center is its 160,000 square feet of indoor space, the outdoor courtyard and surrounding lawn spaces make almost any event possible! The campus is also home to two additional buildings, Jones and Johnson Hall, offering an extra 15,000 square feet of indoor space. The ability for guests to spread out both indoors and outdoors has been one of the features event organizers have appreciated the most during the ever-changing restrictions of COVID-19.

“We know people are ready to get back to something close to normal,” said David Attaway, CEO of @the Grounds. “But we also know people want to feel safe when they step outside their homes. While we understand our collective experience has forever been changed because of COVID-19, we know our community is prepared to tackle this challenge together.”

Over the past few months, @the Grounds has developed a SAFE. CLEAN. HEALTHY. proto col aimed at keeping everyone’s experience safe and enjoyable. Consistent signage throughout the campus reminds guests to social distance as much as possible, wash hands, use sanitizer (available at various points throughout the buildings), and to stay home if they feel unwell. Commonly touched surfaces and restrooms are rigorously sanitized by staff. All employees are required to complete a symptom and temperature check before starting a shift and masks are required according to the State of California order.

Less than 25 miles from the Sacramento International Airport, the Roebbelen Center has a prime location in Roseville, California. Situated in the Placer Valley (home to the three cities of Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln), Roseville is a short distance from a major airport but maintains all the benefits of a small town. Roseville was recently named one of the 50 Best Places to Live by Money Magazine for its retail, affordability and family-friendly environment. Plus, with over 265 days of sunshine a year, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation. SDM
