Ground has been broken, and officials in Peoria are hoping for a home run with the new sports complex that is currently under construction, and is expected to open by Memorial Day weekend of 2015.

According to an article in Louisville BusinessFirst, the state-of-the-art youth sports complex that complex officials believe could attract as many as 250,000 visitors and 11,000 competitive games per year is now under construction.

The sports complex will be located near Shoppes at Grand Prairie, an open-air shopping center in Peoria. It will also be adjacent to an $18 million hotel and conference center.

The complex, which is already receiving inquiries from interested patrons, also will be positioned for year-round play because a 125,000-square-foot indoor dome will be constructed with both synthetic turf and rubberized multi-purpose flooring that allows for numerous sports, including soccer and lacrosse.
