The Meijer State Games of Michigan has been selected as a top three finalist for the 2013 Extraordinary Event/Organization Award by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports. This award honors organizations or events that provide numerous opportunities for physical activity throughout their surrounding communities.

Award finalists will be recognized on April 25 at the Michigan Legislative Session at the State Capitol in Lansing. There will also be a special gala celebration at Ford Field in Detroit where overall winners will be announced.

While in the running for the Extraordinary Event/Organization Award, the Meijer State Games of Michigan is also eligible to receive the People’s Choice Award. This award honors a Governor’s Fitness Award finalist for their accomplishments and dedication to a healthy lifestyle. We would like to ask for the community’s support in voting for our video.

The Meijer State Games of Michigan must receive the most votes in order to win. The community can vote multiple times through midnight on April 24 at: www.michiganfitness.org/gfa-peoples-choice-awards .

The Meijer State Games of Michigan will be included in the Pure Michigan FITness Series endorsement program and is endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports. The Governor’s Council’s Pure Michigan FITness Series is a program that endorses local, regional and state events. It acknowledges an organization’s ability to plan and carry out a quality event that significantly contributes to the health and well-being of Michigan residents.

About the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports: The council was established through an Executive Order issued by Governor John M. Engler in 1992 to improve the health of, and increase physical activity among, Michigan residents. Its 15 members are appointed by the current Governor to two-year terms.

About the Pure Michigan FITness Series: A new program that builds off the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports Endorsement Program. The FITness Series is attempting to redefine fitness by creating a network of physical activity events throughout Michigan that are accessible to all Michigan residents. The goal of the series is to connect organizations that support health and wellness opportunities for their community with the resources and tools of Pure Michigan FIT.
