Dec 28, 2023

The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has announced its official 2024 regular-season schedule that begins on Monday, January 1, and concludes on Sunday, May 5, 2024. The inaugural PWHL season consists of 72 games, with each of the league’s six teams competing 24 times.

“Our inaugural season schedule features games being played at exceptional venues, at a variety of times, across all seven days of the week – offering multiple options for our fans,” said Stan Kasten, PWHL Advisory Board member. “We are excited to drop the puck on New Year’s Day and launch a new era of professional women’s hockey.”

The following eight venues will serve as homes for the great majority of PWHL games this season: Boston will play at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell located in Lowell, Massachusetts. Minnesota will use the Xcel Energy Center, in downtown Saint Paul. Ottawa will play at The Arena at TD Place in the heart of Canada’s capital city. Toronto games will take place at the downtown Mattamy Athletic Centre. Montreal will split its games between the Verdun Auditorium and Place Bell in Laval, Quebec. New York will also play its home games in two different venues including Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and UBS Arena, located within historic Belmont Park, New York.

“We are extremely pleased to be welcoming the PWHL to UBS Arena during their inaugural season,” said Kim Stone, President UBS Arena. “I’m proud that women’s hockey is getting a beautiful new building to call its home for a number of games during this historical moment in women’s sports history. We are excited to welcome the New York team and passionate hockey fans within the region into our home during 2024.”

Five home openers in the first six days of January headline the schedule launch, with all eyes on Toronto for the first game in league history to be played on New Year’s Day. Top PWHL talent will converge in Toronto for NHL All-Star Thursday on Feb. 1 at Scotiabank Arena and the Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase™, part of 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend. The weekend also includes a Saturday afternoon game between Toronto and Minnesota at Mattamy Athletic Centre on Feb. 3.

The 72 regular-season games land on 51 different dates, including 32 standalone matchups, 17 days with two games, and two days where all six teams are in action. The schedule is also spread out with games played on all seven days of the week. 22 games on Saturdays, 21 games on Wednesdays, 13 games on Sundays, six Fridays, six Tuesdays, three Mondays, and one Thursday game. A minimum of 28 games have confirmed afternoon puck drops to provide additional flexibility for fans of all ages.

“Having the privilege to showcase our skills in front of our dedicated fans, in a top-tier arena, represents an opportunity that impeccably aligns with the professional standards upheld by the PWHL,” said Pascal Daoust, PWHL New York General Manager. “It promises to be a premier sports experience not only for our athletes but also our fans, allowing them to gather in greater numbers and take immense pride in standing united behind our team!”

The schedule is constructed so that each team will play head-to-head a minimum of four times including twice at home and twice on the road, and four of a team’s five opponents will be played five times throughout the season. In all cases, American and Canadian teams will compete five times against the other teams in their country. The schedule also pauses in February for an IIHF National Team Break, and in April for the IIHF Women’s World Championship. Playoffs will begin the week of May 6.

Season ticket memberships will be available for purchase the week of Dec. 4, with early access granted to fans who have placed ticket deposits. Single game and group tickets will be made available in the coming weeks, as well as half season plans in select markets.
