2018 World University Golf Championship Gets Seal of Approval

10 Jul, 2017

Global golf just keeps growing.

According to an article in Inside The Games, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) has approved the venue for the 2018 World University Golf Championship (WUGC) in The Philippines.

A FISU delegation gave their "stamp of approval" to the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao, which will host action between May 16 and 19 next year.

Dominic Wall, FISU's technical director for golf, inspected the newly-built 18-hole course situated in Barangay Prado Siongco.

The Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) has been tasked with organizing the Championships.

"I am quite impressed by this beautifully-designed golf course," said Wall. "Expectations are high that the prominent university golfers from around the world will take part in this world competition to be showcased by the host country and FESSAP."

The biennial Championships were last held in 2016 at the Planchetorte Golf Course in Brive in France. Nearly 80 co-ed student golfers took part in the tournament.

"This international event will not only promote golf as a sport for the younger generation of Filipino athletes but also boost tourism in our country," said FESSAP President David Ong.
