National Bicycle League brings Elite Pro BMX race to Lexington

The Columbia Regional Sports Council is proud to announce the Southern Charm Nationals hosted by the Lexington BMX Association and National Bicycle League, beginning Friday May 21 through Sunday May 23 at the Red bank Sports Complex on Nazareth Road. Races will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the public is invited to attend this event. The weekend pass is only $5 per car. The race is being held to bring the top BMX Pro Athletes to the Midlands, including National Champion Randy Stumpfhauser, World and Olympic Gold Medal Champion Maris Stromberg. All proceeds from the event will be used to support the Lexington BMX Association and the National Bicycle League, a non-profit organization that is the National Governing Body of BMX racing.

The event will feature a course measuring 1,200 feet on one of the world finest BMX tracks. The track was built by Tom Ritz, who also built the Olympic track in Beijing, China in 2008. The event will also host nearly 1,000 of the nation's top amateur athletes as they compete for National Championship Points.

There will be several autograph sessions throughout the weekend with all the pros in attendance. Maris Stromberg will also have his Gold Medal on display and for photographs. The Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Bicycle League, James Bagwell states "This is a unique opportunity for our great city and state to host the premier athletes in this emerging sport of BMX racing. Our state has long played host to local organizations and regional events, but this will be the first time in our state's history that we host such amazing athletes."
