The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is making a promise to the Martinsville-Henry County community to fill all 52 weekends of the 2020 calendar year with an organized event or activity. The complex is thankful for a successful year in 2019, but strives to improve each year and to continue to be a community leader in providing economic impact.

"This past year has been the busiest I have ever seen SRSC in the 4 years I have worked here," Houston Stutz, SRSC director of operations, said. "But we want to continue to improve and grow for the residents of M-HC. So with that being said, we promise to have this facility being used all 52 weekends of 2020."

In 2019, SRSC had only one weekend, November 23 and 24, without an organized event, party or game. That's not to say visitors weren't using some of SRSC's great amenities such as the playground, walking paths, or the newest addition, The Dick & Willie Trail, but those activities aren't tracked by SRSC since they are free amenities open year-round.

For comparison, SRSC had organized activity on 44 out of 52 weekends in 2018. SRSC also saw an increase in daily activity throughout the year from 285 days in 2018 to 306 in 2019. SRSC also was able to see an increase of over 6,000 out-of-town visitors from 2018 to 2019. Another interesting statistic showcasing SRSC's economic impact is among the 435 teams that visited SRSC in 2019, those teams drove an average of 2 hours and 33 minutes to participate in events at SRSC.

"It's amazing to be able to have an outdoor facility that can be used for so many different activities throughout the year here in Martinsville," Stutz said. "It's a huge benefit for local residents and businesses to have visitors here and it's a great way to showcase this great community."
