Women’s Football Championship Week comes to Rock Hill

18 Jul, 2014

Event Features Four Major Games, Several Training and Educational Activities

The Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL) chose Rock Hill, SC to host its 2014 IWFL World Championship on July 23-26, 2014 at Rock Hill’s District 3 Stadium. It is the first time for Rock Hill to play host to this event.

The four-day event includes four major IWFL games, as well as several training and educational activities for girls interested in learning more about football and women who want to improve their skills. The Women’s Football Foundation (WFF) events include a coach’s clinic, helmet free tackle clinic, and a girl’s tackle football showcase game.  The event will feature the first Women’s Football Foundation Banquet to honor past, present, and future stars including auction autograph items from Franco Harris and a game used football from Super Bowl XLVIII.

Championship week features the best female football players in North America. Youth players of Canada’s MGFA and IWFL All Stars and Champions will be present, giving fans a rare opportunity to see women’s football at its finest.

Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; and Long Beach, CA are a few cities in which previous IWFL events have been held. The move to Rock Hill marks a new era with an expanded event that includes a partnership with the Women’s Football Foundation (WFF) and a focus on increasing participation in all areas of the sport.

The NFL’s presence is felt in the IWFL, as former NFL standouts either coach or own teams. Carolina Panther’s Brian Wiggins coaches the Houston Energy and Pittsburgh Steeler’s Franco Harris co-owns the Pittsburg Passion. These two teams will actually meet for the championship.

Nearly 1,500 people are expected to attend the championship week activities. The full championship week agenda can be found at www.wffchampweek.com.
