The Latest & Greatest
Butler County, Pennsylvania continues to grow as a sporting events destination with continuous investments in new venues along with the modernization of its historic fields.
Nestled along the Connoquenessing Creek in the city of Butler, the Pullman Recreation Complex is unique not just for its bright-blue turf, but also for its construction. Built without the traditional concrete base, the fields are designed to lower impact, decreasing the risk of injury for players.
“It’s the latest and greatest in turf construction,” said Tom Knights, Butler Township Manager. “The blue turf is a unique feature; no one else has it.”
The complex boasts fields large enough for international soccer, also lined for lacrosse, rugby and football. On-site amenities include a concession stand, restrooms and ample parking near both pitches, as well as a press box featuring elevator access.
Construction of a secondary building for the adjacent field is currently underway. This will include a more extensive press box and locker rooms. There will also be a walking trail around the complex, open to visiting teams and the surrounding community.
The venue has hosted up-and-coming and prestigious sporting events, including the National Collegiate Rugby playoffs in December of 2025. Other organizations working with the complex include the Steel City Soccer Club and The Allegheny Rugby Union (ARU). The ARU will be returning to the Pullman Complex in March for their spring qualifiers.
Butler Plays Ball
Less than five minutes away from the Pullman Complex is another unique venue with an exciting future. Historic Pullman Park was originally built in the 1930s and is currently receiving approximately $400,000 in updates and repairs to modernize the stadium into a top-of-the-line venue. Its artificial turf has been replaced, along with 400 of the 1,468 stadium seats.
Experience More Fun
The Complex and Park are conveniently located near highly rated hotels, including the Ramada by Wyndham Butler/Tesla Biohealing Resort, which offers a full-service restaurant, an extensive gym and a pool.

The centralized location allows easy access to restaurants, parks and shops. Less than an hour north of Pittsburgh, these venues also grant easy access to city attractions and the Pittsburgh International Airport.
