– For the third straight year, the Great Allegheny Passage has been named a winner in the  USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest for Best Recreational Trail.

Locally known as the GAP trail, this 150-mile, non-motorized path connects to the C&O Canal Towpath leading visitors from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. The Only in Pittsburgh bucket-list attraction begins at Point State Park, marked by a bronze medallion next to the famous fountain at the park’s triangular tip.

The GAP trail is nearly flat, making it perfect for all outdoor enthusiasts, whether walking smaller portions or biking the spectacular 335-mile trail adventure to the nation’s capital.

“Pittsburgh and the GAP trail offer some of the most spectacular views and diverse landscape you’ll find in the U.S.,” said VisitPITTSBURGH President & CEO Jerad Bachar. “It’s certainly one of the most unique outdoor adventures worth checking out when visiting Pittsburgh.”

The GAP trail is just one of the many outdoor activities to enjoy in Pittsburgh. From kayaking, boating or hiking along the famous three rivers to golfing one of the more than 500 public golf courses to exploring the more than 700 outdoor stairways, 446 bridges or 163 parks within Pittsburgh’s limits, the possibilities are endless for travelers looking for their next adventure.
