A full slate of community sporting events is set to bring energy to the Erie region this weekend. The Millcreek Summer Sizzler Baseball Tournaments will open the series with 14U competition Thursday through Sunday at McDowell High School Hanlon Athletic Complex. Eight teams from around the region are expected to compete, with a three-game guarantee followed by semi-final and championship games.
Youth softball and baseball action will also be underway Saturday and Sunday with the Father’s Day Frenzy for 10U, 12U and 14U softball divisions and 15/16U softball, hosted by Northeast Little League. The tournament features a three-game minimum and is expecting approximately 35 teams from across the tri-state region to compete in the tournament.
Also running Thursday through Sunday is the PA State Championship Shoot, held at Critter Path Sporting Clays in Waterford. The four‑day event will draw sport shooting competitors for a series of courses that includes nine tri-state challenge events. There will be eight shooting categories throughout the weekend with the main event taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, the Gundog Dan Rucks ALS 7’s Rugby Tournament will take place at the Erie Insurance Fields at McKean. The tournament honors Erie Rugby Club player Dan Wingerter, a longtime pillar of the Erie rugby community. The one‑day event will feature fast‑paced seven‑a‑side rugby matches with proceeds going to the ALS Association.
Rounding out the weekend, the fourth annual Bay Frog Open Swim will be held Sunday morning at Presque Isle Bay with proceeds benefiting the Uncommon Grit Foundation. This open-water mile draws some of the region’s strongest swimmers, along with an unforgettable twist: participants are accompanied by former Navy SEALs and special operations veterans, all swimming for something bigger than the finish line.
