Erie County will be the home to two NCAA Division II regional championship events this month, as Mercyhurst University prepares to host both the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship Regional and the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

The two events will have an estimated economic impact of nearly $500,000.

“Erie has repeatedly proven its ability to be an outstanding host site for NCAA championships, and being selected to host two more in the span of only two weeks is further proof of our region’s penchant for collegiate sports,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “We are grateful that Mercyhurst University continues to eagerly host NCAA championship events in our region. Our entire team is looking forward to two extremely competitive events.”

“After hosting many winter championships, Mercyhurst is thrilled to host men’s lacrosse and golf regionals this spring,” said Mercyhurst Director of Athletics Brad Davis. “Our staff continues to go above and beyond in support of the student-athletes experience, and I am very proud that we continue to put Mercyhurst and Erie on the map by hosting national and regional championships.”

The NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Regional Championship will be hosted at Lake View Country Club May 6-8. Eight teams and three individuals will compete for both the Atlantic Region and East Region at the event. The top four teams and top individual not with a team from each super regional will advance to the finals, May 17-21 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The Gannon University men’s golf team was selected to compete as the top seed in the Atlantic Region, while Mercyhurst senior Jack Angelucci will compete as the top individual in the Atlantic Region.

Public spectators will be permitted.

Tournament brackets will be announced on Sunday, May 9.
