The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that an agreement has been reached with the Town of Cary, North Carolina to make Cary Tennis Park the new home of the prestigious ITA Women’s All-American Championships. The agreement is for three years, beginning in the fall of 2022 and running through 2024.

Under the agreement, Duke University, the University of North Carolina, and North Carolina State University will serve as host institutions and provide hosting support to Cary and Cary Tennis Park.

“The ITA is thrilled for this new chapter in the storied history of the ITA Women’s All-American Championships,” said ITA Senior Director Cory Brooks. “This has always been a special event for our coaches and players and it deserves a special home. The Cary Tennis Park has an outstanding reputation for running first-class events and will make an ideal home for this championship. The ITA would like to the thank Sean Ferreira (Cary Tennis Park) and Cary for the many months of work needed to bring this agreement to fruition, as well as Jamie Ashworth (Duke), Brian Kalbas (North Carolina) and Simon Earnshaw (NC State) for their willingness as coaches to invest in the future of this ITA national championship.”

The 2022 ITA Women’s All-American will see a return to the hard courts October 1-9, 2022 after spending the previous year on clay. The event will also see a return to qualifying singles and doubles rounds as well as pre-qualifying singles and doubles rounds. Singles draws sizes will be 96 for pre-qualifying, 64 for qualifying, and 32 for the main draw. Doubles draws sizes will include a 32 for pre-qualifying, 48 for qualifying, and a 32 for the main draw. The entire nine-day event will be played outdoors at the Cary Tennis Park. In the event of inclement weather, the Cary Tennis Park covered courts will be used along with a combination of the Duke, UNC, and NC State indoor facilities if necessary. As part of the agreement, live scoring and live streaming will also be provided throughout the event.

“Cary is excited to be hosting the ITA Women’s All-American Championships at the Cary Tennis Park,” said Cary Tennis Park Director Sean Ferreira. “The All-American is one of the premier college events held each year. We are honored to have this event here in Cary over the next few years and we look forward to hosting a special event for players, coaches and spectators.”

The Cary Tennis Park opened in 2002 and contains 25 outdoor, lighted hard courts, including a center court and ample spectator seating. The facility has seen numerous improvements over the years including the addition of seven covered courts in 2017. Cary Tennis Park is currently the home to many high profile junior, collegiate and professional events including the annual Atlantic Tire Championships. In 2019, the facility received the USTA’s “Featured Facility” award, which recognized excellence in the construction and/or renovation of tennis facilities throughout the country.

“What a tremendous honor and opportunity it is for the ITA Women’s All-American Championships to be coming to Cary, North Carolina,” said Duke Head Women’s Tennis Coach Jamie Ashworth. “I have been lucky enough to have attended the previous twenty-five All-American events and I know that the Cary Tennis Park along with the ITA will provide a first-class event for players, coaches, and fans. This tournament is annually one of the highlights of the year and has showcased some of the best that women’s intercollegiate tennis has to offer on both the singles and doubles courts. We at Duke, along with UNC and NC State, are excited to help provide this opportunity to players nationwide and are looking forward to having an absolutely tremendous event.
