The non-profit Hartford Marathon Foundation, which produces 30+ race events throughout southern New England, has created a sustainable team relay race concept that spans 95 miles and three states.  RiMaConn Relay is a day-long endurance running event that will host three-member and six-member teams to experience a scenic course that traverses 21 towns, starting in Lincoln, Rhode Island, running into Massachusetts, and then through Connecticut to end in Hartford.

The Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) is committed to sustainably produce the event, with attention to details to off-set the carbon footprint and promote local and responsibly sourced food, beer and race swag for participants.  85% of the course utilizes a network of scenic multi-use trails, including the Blackstone River Bikeway, Southern New England Trunkline Trail, Air Line Trail, Hop River Trail and Charter Oak Greenway.

Registration for the inaugural event is already open at www.runthegreenway.com, race day is Saturday, August 24. A staggered early morning race start will accommodate varying paces of teams while also accounting for foot traffic on the trails and safe vehicle travel for teams and communities to access the 18 exchange points.

“We are fortunate to have an incredible trail system to enjoy, this race will show-off those areas and communities that many participants never have a chance to experience.  We are excited to welcome participants from across the Northeast in a unique opportunity to bond with their running buddies as a team or find new groups to be a part of,” said Beth Shluger, Hartford Marathon Foundation CEO and founder. “We appreciate the support of the communities we’ll be running through and welcome participation of volunteer groups, local businesses and community partners to join us in this unique endeavor.”

With the support of the East Coast Greenway Alliance and the three states that the race will run through, HMF will continue to update race details to address participant and community questions.  Additionally, HMF is currently seeking volunteers, partners and sponsors to support participants and enhance their race experience.

Registration for the event is open and all details can be found at runthegreenway.com.
