This February, the Lansing Sports Commission® will celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day with two events designed to recognize, empower and support female athletes, coaches and leaders. The events include the return of FIERCE Women in Sports Speaker Series on Wednesday, February 4 and the debut of the FIERCE Girls in Sports Clinic on Saturday, February 7.

“Sport plays a powerful role in building confidence, leadership and community,” said Meghan Ziehmer, Executive Director of the Lansing Sports Commission. “Through the FIERCE series, we’re proud to celebrate women leading in sport while also creating new opportunities for young girls to explore a variety of sports.”

The inaugural FIERCE Girls in Sports Clinic is designed for girls in grades 3-6 and introduces participants to non-traditional sports in a supportive, confidence-building environment.

Participants will rotate through five sport stations — field hockey, pickleball, golf, archery, and esports — led by experienced athletes and coaches. Each station connects sport fundamentals with life skills that reinforce how physical activity can build character and community. While participants are active, parents and guardians are invited to attend a Parent Empowerment Session focused on supporting young athletes and fostering positive sports experiences at home. Sponsored registrations are available to help reduce financial barriers for families. Registration for both events is now open. More information is available at Lansingsports.org.
