Wicomico County Run For The Frontlines a Huge Success

Apr 21, 2020

Residents of Wicomico County and beyond ran or walked 5Ks on April 8 and 15 and helped get meals to frontline employees fighting against COVID-19.

People were invited to run or walk 5Ks from their homes, solo or with family they live with, on those dates and share a photo or map with the hashtag #5KforFrontLines on Facebook. The second date was added in order to reach the goal of 300 5Ks logged, which meant 300 meals going to Wicomico County frontline employees.

Wicomico County Recreation & Parks partnered with Amerigroup and the Mizzle House Foundation for this effort.

Gift cards were purchased from Brew River, Olde Towne Café, Roadie Joe’s Bar & Grill, MoJo’s Urban Eatery, Sub Runners and Flannery’s and are being distributed via mail.

Medical organizations that will benefit from the donated meals are Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Encompass Health, Deer’s Head Hospital Center and Coastal Hospice. Donations will also benefit firefighters at the Powellville, Parsonsburg, Willards, Pittsville, Fruitland, Allen, Hebron, Mardela Springs, Sharptown, West Side, Delmar and Salisbury fire departments.

The gift cards for meals will also be provided to the Wicomico Nursing Home, Anchorage Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Genesis HealthCare in Salisbury, the 911 center and the Maryland State Police Salisbury barrack.

"Thank you to everyone who participated in the 5K for Front Lines and supported Wicomico County's frontline employees," said James Simmons, recreation superintendent for Wicomico County Recreation & Parks. “We are also so thankful for everyone who works to keep our community safe."
