By running or walking 5Ks from their homes, members of the Wicomico County community can support local restaurants and frontline employees fighting COVID-19.

Wicomico County Recreation & Parks has partnered with Amerigroup and the Mizzle House Foundation for the 5K for Front Lines Virtual Run/Walk.

This free virtual event is set for Wednesday, April 8. People can run or walk a 5K anytime that day from their homes or on a home treadmill and post a photo showing they completed the distance on Facebook with the hashtag #5KforFrontLines.

For each of the first 300 5Ks completed and uploaded to Facebook with that hashtag on April 8, one meal will be purchased from a local restaurant and donated to a frontline employee in Wicomico County (one 5K per person).

Five random participants will win a $25 gift card to a local restaurant.

“We are excited to provide an opportunity to get people active, support local restaurants and thank and support those who are on the front lines fighting COVID-19,” said James Simmons, recreation superintendent for Wicomico County Recreation & Parks. “We can’t thank them enough for risking their own health daily to keep our community safe. We would like to thank Amerigroup and the Mizzle House Foundation for their help and support to make this a reality.”

Participants should run or walk alone or with family members they live with. If participants see others while outside, they should practice social distancing and keep at least six feet of space. Wicomico County parks are closed at this time.
