ITA Women’s Indoor Championship Kicks off in Indiana

February draws to a close with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's fourth national championship event this month, as DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, hosts the 2016 ITA Division III National Women's Team Indoor Championship.

The three-day event, which features an eight-team field, gets underway with first round play on Friday, Feb. 26, and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 28. DePauw University is serving as event host for the sixth time (five straight) in the eight-year history of the ITA Division III National Women's Team Indoor Championship.

Johns Hopkins is the three-time defending champion at the #ITAIndoors. The Blue Jays won last year's event with a 6-3 victory over Carnegie Mellon in the final. Joining the defending champions in the 2016 field are host DePauw University, Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Pomona-Pitzer, Sewanee, Washington & Lee and Washington University-St. Louis.

Carnegie Mellon is the highest-ranked team in the field, holding the No. 6 position in November 2015's Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis National Rankings. Pomona-Pitzer (No. 7), MIT (No. 9), Washington & Lee (No. 10), Johns Hopkins (No. 11), Sewanee (No. 12), Washington University-St. Louis (No. 13) and DePauw (No. 14) all hold Top 15 positions in the rankings.

Friday's action gets underway with a pair of matches at 10 a.m. CT. Third-seeded MIT takes on No. 6 Sewanee and No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer faces off with No. 7 Washington University-St. Louis. At 3:30 p.m. CT, the two other first round matches get underway, with No. 1 Carnegie Mellon versus No. 8 DePauw and No. 4 Washington & Lee against No. 5 Johns Hopkins. Saturday's semifinals will feature the two winners from Friday's 10 a.m. CT, session in one match, and the Friday 3:30 p.m. CT, session winners in the other semifinal.

About the ITA Division III National Women's Team Indoor Championships: The ITA Division III National Women's Team Indoor Championship is held annually each February. The women's event began in 2009 and will be held for the eighth time in 2016. The event features eight participating teams and is held over three days, beginning on Friday with the quarterfinals, followed by semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday. Johns Hopkins (3), Emory (2), Carnegie Mellon (1) and Washington & Lee (1) are past champions.
