A rapidly growing swimming school will be expanding to Nocatee, building a facility with a 50-meter Olympic-size outdoor pool, clay tennis courts and more.

The school, Planet Swim, was founded a decade ago by Gus Calado, who coached swimming at The Bolles School and Nease High School.

Planet Swim's Nocatee location will offer year-round swim lessons, a competitive swim team and a roster of certified trainers, according to a press release from North Avenue Capital, a Ponte Vedra-based commercial lender that is financing the $5 million project in partnership with the USDA Rural Development loan program.

The swimming school now has operations on Alta Mar Drive in Ponte Vedra Beach and on Argyle Forest Boulevard in Jacksonville.

"The recent growth in northeast Florida has increased demand for sports and recreation outlets accessible to those living outside of country clubs," Calado said in the release.
