Monarch is hosting two traditional events for the ski area's final weekend. On Saturday, April 11, the mountain will host Kayaks on Snow. The next day, the ski area's parking lot will be dedicated to the Closing Day Tailgate Party.

This year, Kayaks on Snow will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Freeway run. During the event, competitors in heats of four kayak down a custom-made course ending with an icy pond.

Registration costs $25 this year, and will open at 9 a.m. the morning of the event. Competitors must bring their own kayak, PFD, helmet, paddle and a carabineer. This year's prizes for the top four paddlers come from Monarch, CKS, Absolute Bikes and Hestra.

For those who'd rather sit back and watch, entry is free, and the mountain is hosting local businesses to help kick off the start of whitewater season.

The next day, head up to the mountain for Monarch's Closing Day Tailgate Party and Cook-off. Partiers should plan on cooking up their best eats and decking out their rigs, since Monarch will be giving away a 2015-2016 season pass to the best cook and one to the owner of the best decorated rig at the event. Judges will begin their rounds at noon.
