Denver Colfax Marathon announces a brand new half marathon course in conjunction with the 15th Anniversary Celebration.

The favorite element of the Half Marathon has been the full mile in Denver Zoo, a once a year chance for runners to be watched by rhinos, elephants, camels, monkeys, tigers, and more. The New Half Marathon Course will include the full mile in Denver Zoo, and is one of only two races in the US to run through a zoo.

New this year is a fun Downtown Denver Tour with incredible mountain views. Runners will head to downtown via the vibrant and eclectic Colfax, passing iconic spots such as VooDoo donuts, The Irish Snug, and Cathedral Basilica. The course runs by the Denver Capitol Building, Civic Center Park, 16th Street Mall, Convention Center, and the Cherry Creek Bike Path. One of the most unique sites for runners is the opportunity to run through a working fire station – Denver Fire #1 - and receive high fives from Denver Firefighters. Colfax is the only race in the country to offer a fire station run-through.

Entertainment along the way includes bands, drummers, mimes, and even the Colorado Firefighter Calendar – Live. The homestretch will be 17th Avenue passing restaurants and historic buildings, before entering Denver’s beautiful City Park for a great After Party on the Lake.

Spectators and residents will find this year easier. Spectators can now watch runners in all races from key locations on the course as the downtown sections of the course are shared by all of the races. And residents will find driving easier on the east side of Denver as Colorado Blvd. and all streets east will be open on Race Day.

What else is new for the 15th Anniversary?

The 15th Year Anniversary Celebration is full week of activities for 20,000 runners, and Mile High City enthusiasts. Monday is the Colorado Running Hall of Fame (inductees and high school recognition), Tuesday is Marathon Movie Night, Wednesday are Shake Out Runs across the Front Range, and Thursday is Colfax Evening Out for dining and concert. Friday and Saturday are the Expo at Empower Field at Mile High, Saturday is the Kick off 5K, and Sunday is the Marathon, Half, Urban 10 miler, and the Marathon Relay.

Commemorative medals and gifts will celebrate the 5th year.
