USTA National 40 Hard Court Championships Serving Up Action Starting Today

29 Nov, 2021

The United States Tennis Association National 40 Hard Court Championships will be played Monday, November 29 through Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, 2000 Spindrift Dr., La Jolla, CA 92037.

Tournament competition is slated for Men and Women in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events for players 40 and over (players must reach or exceed the age of 40 at any time in this calendar year to be eligible). Participants will include former touring pros and the nation’s strongest players in this age group.

Entry information for tournament competitors is available here.

Entries are also being accepted for the USTA National Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson Hard Court Doubles Championships which will be contested at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club from Friday, December 3 through Sunday, December 5.

The Father/Son Championship has been held continuously at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club since 1959, and attracts the top father and son tennis teams in the nation.  The Grandfather/Grandson Championship is a relatively new competitive division that started at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club in 2003.

“After the cancellation of last year’s tournament due to COVID-19, we are excited to be back this year and are eagerly anticipating a great week of national championship tennis at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club,” said Tournament Director Bill Kellogg.

Schedules and match times for individual events will be determined by the number of entries in each event. Men's and Women's singles and doubles are expected to start Monday, November 29. Mixed doubles are expected to start Tuesday, November 30. Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson Doubles are expected to play their first matches on the morning of Friday, December 3.

Tournament officials will use Match Tennis App's Virtual Tournament Desk technology at this year’s event. The Match Tennis App will allow players to check-in for each match and see how many matches are scheduled ahead of their match on a mobile phone.

The App will also notify players when their court becomes available and will tell them which court to report to.  At the conclusion of each match, competitors will use the App to report the winner and match score.

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club welcomes tennis spectators to the tournament with free admission. Onsite parking is available for a nominal fee.
