La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club Set to Host Elite Junior Tennis Players

Tournament officials have announced a talented field of players for the upcoming IC Rod Laver Junior Challenge Worldwide Finals featuring teams from Argentina, Great Britain, India, Italy, South Africa and the United States. The Ceremony will include a Color Guard, a Flag Procession and the playing of each nation’s National Anthem as the teams enter the Pavilion.Tournament officials had previously announced that Tennis Legend Rod Laver would attend the tournament, but due to a schedule conflict, Laver will be unable to attend the competition.   Team matches will consist of two boys’ singles matches, two girls’ singles matches, one boys’ doubles match and one girls’ doubles match. A match tie-break in mixed doubles will be played as a decisive match if necessary to determine the winner. The event will use a round-robin format with each team playing a total of five matches. The team with the best overall record will be crowned champion on the final day.Matches will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7 and at 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 8 through Saturday, November 11. (All times are PST)The “IC” in the title of the tournament stands for “International Lawn Tennis Club”, an organization headquartered in London, England that organizes and oversees international team competitions and undertakes philanthropic efforts  worldwide to benefit underprivileged kids.  This event is a relatively new competition, designed to offer junior competitors in the 16 & under age division, a chance to experience international team competition and new cultures, much like the better-known Olympics, Davis Cup and Billie Jean Cup competitions.  There are 42 member nations of the IC and the USIC is the host organization for this year’s edition.  The motto of this competition is:  “Hands across the net, Friendships across the Ocean”.Admission for spectators is free.
