The United States Tennis Association’s National 40 Hard Court Championships will take place Monday, November 28 through Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, 2000 Spindrift Dr, La Jolla, CA 92037

Tournament competition is slated for Men and Women in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events for players 40 and over (players must reach or exceed the age of 40 at any time in this calendar year to be eligible). Participants will include former touring pros and the nation’s strongest players in this age group.

The seven-day event at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club will feature singles and doubles matches starting November 28.  Tournament matches are scheduled each day of the week, with the finals scheduled for December 4.

“We are expecting a very strong player field for this year’s National 40 Hard Court Championships,” said Tournament Director Bill Kellogg. “Competitors will be coming from all across the country to play this year-end national tournament. We’re looking forward to an exciting week of championship tennis.”

Also on the agenda is the USTA National Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson Hard Court Doubles Championships beginning Friday, December 2, with matches concluding Sunday, December 4. The Father/Son championship has been held continuously at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club since 1959, and attracts the top father and son tennis teams in the nation.

The Grandfather/Grandson Championship is a relatively new competitive division that started at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club in 2003. Draws will be posted at the Beach Club and will be available via LJBTC.com.

Schedules and match times for individual events will be determined by the number of entries in each event. Men's and Women's singles and doubles are expected to start Monday, November 28. Mixed doubles are expected to start Tuesday, November 29. Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson Doubles are expected to play their first matches on the morning of Friday, December 2.

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club welcomes tennis spectators to the tournament with free admission. Onsite parking is available for a nominal fee.

The 8th Annual 10U Green-dot Father/Son tournament will also be played during the final weekend. This special event is for fathers and sons who are not quite ready to compete in the Open Father/Son division. Fathers and a young son (10 & under), are eligible to play in the non-sanctioned event. The emphasis will be on fun and the event is aimed to help kids get ready to play the main event in the future.

Those interested in entering the Green-dot event should contact Conan Lorenzo at 619-846-3094 or clorenzo@ljbtc.com. The matches will be played with green dot balls. Match formats will be round robin scoring using short sets. Play in this special event is expected to start the afternoon of Saturday, December 3.

The USTA National 40 Hard Court Championships are part of the International Tennis Federation World Tennis Masters Tour. Formerly known as the ITF Seniors Tour, the recently rebranded Masters Tour includes individual and team singles, doubles and mixed doubles events across various grade levels for each five-year age increment from 30+ to 90+. Approximately 27,500 players worldwide aged 30+ to 90+ compete in Masters Tour events each year.
