The TransRockies Race Series has announced a new gravel bike race – the TransRockies Gravel Royale – which is scheduled to take place in British Columbia, Canada, on August 23-26, 2021.

Traversing Panorama Mountain Resort, Nipika Mountain Resort, The Village of Canal Flats and the City of Fernie, BC, the four-day stage race will cover 375km (233 miles) and around 7,000m (23,000 ft) of climbing. Registration for the 2021 event will open on September 21.

“We are excited to be coming back up to this area of BC after hosting the first TransRockies Challenge mountain bike stage race 20 years ago,” said Aaron McConnell, President of TransRockies.

“As gravel continues to grow, we knew we had an opportunity to create an epic experience on some of the most beautiful and remote gravel roads in the world.”

In addition to the full four-day stage race, TransRockies Gravel Royale will offer alternative options for riders and their families, including a two-day ‘Ante Up’ ride, a three-day E-Bike ‘Poker Ride’, and the ‘Fair Deal Family Mountain Bike Challenge’ during stage two in Nipika.

With only race 300 spots available, the stages of Gravel Royale will take riders on secluded gravel roads through the Canadian Rocky Mountains, traditional home to the Ktunaxa Nation Indiginous people. Riders will experience mountain views, native wildlife and winding stretches of gravel in this ‘difficult, but achievable challenge’.

The extensive network of well-maintained fire roads in the region should guarantee good riding and racing conditions.

After each stage, participants can anticipate a relaxing, fun and memorable time at camp. After 20 years, TransRockies notes that it has perfected its camp hospitality and provides all of the amenities riders could need.

The TransRockies team transports gear/luggage, sets up tents at each stage, provides showers and prepares meals. Each night, massage and athletic therapy stations are available along with mechanical support and a bike wash for participants.

With all TransRockies stage races, ‘the Chillville’ will make an appearance at Gravel Royale and will be equipped with music, snacks and a campfire for riders to socialize and hang out with other participants.

“The camp experience for participants is always so special for our team,” said Kevin McDonald, TransRockies’ VP of Operations. “This is where everyone gets to connect, share stories and reflect on the day as well as look forward to a new adventure the next day.”
