The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), along with the USTA Southwest and the Arizona State University men’s and women’s tennis programs will host Tempe Tennis Day on November 17 from 2-4 p.m. at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

Tempe Tennis Day is free and open to rising eighth graders and younger of all playing abilities.

“Tempe Tennis Day is great example of our sport engaging with a local community to make an impact and expose young people to the sport of tennis and create future fans and players that will ultimately help grow the game,” said ITA Chief Executive Officer Timothy Russell. “To see the participation numbers nearly double from 2017 to 2018 is an encouraging sign that more youth are showing an interest in tennis, and we hope that their interaction with the Arizona State student-athletes and coaches, USTA and ITA staffs will inspire them to continuing playing and developing their skills.”

Tempe Tennis Day features tennis-specific drills, lessons and games, and free pizza and drinks will be provided to those in attendance.

“The USTA Southwest Section is excited to once again partner with the Arizona State tennis teams and ITA for Tempe Tennis Day” said USTA Southwest Section Executive Director Eric Mitchell. “This has served as a great event to bring awareness to not only exciting college tennis right here in our backyard but connect junior tennis players to the program in hopes they continue with ‘the sport of a lifetime’ and ultimately pursue it as a student-athlete.”

The 2019 Tempe Tennis Day will mark the third year of the collaborative effort between the Arizona State men’s and women’s tennis teams, ITA and USTA.

“Last year, we had close to 150 in attendance which was fantastic” ASU head men’s tennis Coach Matt Hill said. “We’re looking to further promote the game of tennis in the community and create a fun experience for everyone who attends!”
