The city of Mobile is gearing up for three days of culture and competition as the 2025 Gulf Coast Challenge, powered by the Mobile Sports Authority, kicks off Thursday, October 2, through Saturday, October 4. This high-energy tradition has become known as the ultimate HBCU experience.
To officially kick things off, a press conference will be held on Wednesday, June 4 at 12:00 p.m., in the lobby of Ladd-Peebles Stadium located at 1621 Virginia Street, Mobile, AL 36604. Media, community leaders, and supporters are invited to attend to get this year’s full event details.
At the heart of the eventful week, is the much-anticipated football showdown between Jackson State University and Alabama A&M University set for Saturday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
“Along with our City and County of Mobile partners, the Mobile Sports Authority is once again looking forward to another weekend of HBCU football,” said Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority. “This will be the 8th Gulf Coast Challenge and our 10th HBCU football game since we brought HBCU football back to Mobile in 2016. Jackson State and Alabama A&M have a history of putting on great games, and we expect this year to be no different.”
The Gulf Coast Challenge is more than a game. Attendees can enjoy a college and career fair, team luncheon, a prestigious presidential luncheon with community and education leaders, and nightly concerts at Ladd-Peebles Stadium featuring nationally recognized artists and high-energy performances.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the Gulf Coast Challenge back to Mobile,” said LaSheryl Dotch, CEO of the Gulf Coast Challenge. “This weekend is about more than football, it’s a celebration of the legacy, pride, and future of HBCUs. It’s an opportunity to unite our community, inspire young people, and showcase excellence.”
