USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS) partnered with LifeStraw to provide its athletes with access to safe drinking water when traveling to and within China for the recent test event at the National Sliding Center in Beijing. LifeStraw joined the team as an Official Supplier, and provided each member of USABS that attended the test event with a Lifestraw Go Water Filter Bottle.

The activated carbon filter removes 99.999999% of bacteria, 99.999% of parasites, 99.999% of microplastics, silt, sand, and cloudiness. The filter also reduces chlorine, organic chemical matter, and bad odors for improved taste.

“Having the LifeStraw Go Water Filter Bottles with us in China was a game changer for us,” said USA Bobsled Head Coach Mike Kohn. “We never had to buy plastic bottles or search for drinking water, because we always had access to safe drinking water with the LifeStraw bottle. It allowed us to focus on what we were there to do, which was to learn the track in preparation for February.”

LifeStraw filters are rigorously tested by independent labs and LifeStraw’s own ISO certified lab to meet drinking water  protocols established by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and NSF International/ANSI. LifeStraw’s membrane microfilters are made of hollow fiber membrane technology – a similar technology used in kidney dialysis. These membranes are made of small straws that contain microscopic pores of 0.2 microns in diameter. Dirty water enters one side of the straws and clean water passes through the pores while bacteria, parasites, microplastics, dirt, silt, sand and cloudiness are blocked and unable to pass through because they are too large. The result is safe drinking water flows into a clean chamber for drinking while contaminants are blocked.

“We are so pleased to be able to support the USA Bobsled and Skeleton team during their training and competition,” said  Alison Hill, CEO, LifeStraw. “We know how critical hydration is for athletes and we are proud to be able to offer an alternative to sourcing plastic water bottles, while also keeping everyone healthy and safe. Best of luck to the team! We look forward to watching them compete.”
