Dec 08, 2015

Nautique, a Premier Sponsor of USA Water Ski, has announced the 2016 event schedule for the Nautique Big Dawg World Slalom Tour, presented by O’Brien. The series, which will be entering in its 11th year, is pulled exclusively by the world-record breaking Ski Nautique 200. The series will feature four qualifying stops at premier water ski sites around the world as the top 34 mph amateur slalom skiers – age 35 and older – vie for a spot in the Big Dawg Finals.

Each stop will include two rounds of 34 mph record-capability slalom action, followed by a bracketed, 16-skier, head-to-head final. The dates and location of the Big Dawg Finals have yet to be announced.

The Big Dawg World Slalom Tour uses a points system based on placement at each event that determines qualified athletes for the finals. The winner of each qualifying stop is awarded maximum points and receives an automatic invite to the finals. Skiers are awarded points based upon their placement at each event. A cumulative score for each skier is calculated by adding the two highest point totals from the qualifying events. The top-40 skiers are invited to compete at the Big Dawg Finals.

U.S. athlete Jeff Rodgers won the 2015 Big Dawg title. He is the 11th different champion in the past 12 years. The Big Dawg was started in 2004. It evolved into a series in 2006.
