W-20 Alignment & Schedule Announced

96-game schedule opens May 18

W-20, the premier North American under-20 women’s league, released its divisional alignment and schedule for 2013 in Tampa, Florida, with the action slated to kick off for the 96-game regular season on Saturday, May 18. 

The 2013 W-20 season features 23 teams aligned in four regional divisions - North Atlantic, Midwest, New England and South Atlantic - playing 8-10 regular season matches from May through July, with a national championship set at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The Northern Virginia Majestics will travel to face Reading United AC on Saturday, May 18 in the rebranded league’s inaugural matchup. The Washington Spirit Academy, which reached the 2012 Women’s Super-20 League final as the D.C. United Women, opens its season on June 8 when it hosts Keystone Athletic SC in another important North Atlantic Division matchup.

The regular season closes on Sunday, July 14 when the Carolina Elite Cobras host Southern Soccer Academy and Lake Norman SC travels to face Triangle FC.

W-20 currently features six teams that serve as reserve teams for W-League clubs, including the Carolina Elite Cobras, the Dayton Dutch Lions, FASA (Fredericksburg Impact), the Ottawa Fury, the Toronto Lynx Jrs. (Toronto Lady Lynx) and the Washington Spirit Academy (Washington Spirit Reserves). The Washington Spirit Reserves of the W-League serve in the same capacity for the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
