The Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series® announced the addition of Rock ‘n’ Roll® Chongqing Shapingba Half Marathon, which will make its debut on Sunday, November 25. The new venue becomes the latest addition to the international tour in China with the half marathon, 10K and 5K distances.
“The popularity of Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series events continues to grow in China and we are pleased to expand our offerings with Rock ‘n’ Roll Chongqing Shapingba added to the schedule,” said Jeff Edwards, General Manager of Operations for IRONMAN China. “The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series will now feature events in some of the most globally recognizable locations in China.”
The largest municipality in southwest China, the city of Chongqing attracts visitors from home and abroad with its natural wonders and cultural heritage. It’s a city of beauty and mountains, and is known as the 'Mountain City'. The wavy terrain encompasses a wealth of water reserves, mineral resources, dense forests, and abundant flora and fauna. It is a modern port city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
The musically themed running series is known for Bringing Fun to the Run™ with live music and entertainment on the course. Runners will experience the Shapingba District, famous for its technology, education, and culture. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Chongqing Shapingba event will offer runners a scenic course of the half marathon, 10K and 5K distances. The half marathon begins at 2:00 p.m. with the 10K and Happy Run 5K starting at 3:30 p.m. Runners start and end at Chongqing Normal University Outdoor Stadium.
In 2017, Rock ‘n’ Roll Chengdu was announced as the location for the first ever Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event in China. This year, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Luoping Half Marathon, Rock ‘n’ Roll Guangzhou Half Marathon and Rock ‘n’ Roll Beijing were added have taken place with Rock ‘n’ Roll Chongqing Shapingba the latest event to join the China race calendar.
