IRONMAN, a Wanda Sports Holdings Company, today announced it has acquired three races from Revolution3 Triathlon (Rev3Tri). IRONMAN® will now own and operate IRONMAN® 70.3® Connecticut, formerly Rev3 Quassy, IRONMAN 70.3 Virginia, formerly Rev3 Williamsburg and IRONMAN 70.3 Maine, which was a previously licensed event. The popular triathlon events will be incorporated into the IRONMAN 70.3 Series and general registration for the 2019 events will open on September 25.

“The addition of these events to the IRONMAN 70.3 portfolio further affirms IRONMAN’s commitment to providing our athletes with consistent, high-quality experiences in a variety of amazing communities,” said Josh Furlow, Managing Director of North America for IRONMAN. “These exceptional races which Rev3 has built into successful triathlon events will add even more options for athletes seeking extraordinary destinations and amazing experiences.”

IRONMAN 70.3 Connecticut: The Quassy Amusement Park will host IRONMAN 70.3 Connecticut. The park was founded in 1908 and sits on the south shore of Lake Quassapaug in Middlebury, Connecticut. The race will begin with a swim through beautiful spring-fed Lake Quassapaug, followed by a challenging bike course through the breathtaking Connecticut countryside with long winding descents taking athletes through pastoral vineyards. Capping off with a double loop run course through scenic New England neighborhoods, the new event is sure to become a bucket list event for athletes. The race is scheduled to take place on June 2nd, 2019 and is a perfect tune-up for IRONMAN Lake Placid.

IRONMAN 70.3 Virginia: Williamsburg will be the site of IRONMAN 70.3 Virginia. Home to famous Colonial Williamsburg, the historic Jamestown Island and Yorktown Battlefield, the area includes a Living-History Museum where actors in period costume depict daily colonial life. Additionally, the area host Busch Gardens Williamsburg, which has over 350 acres of roller coasters, and water parks, making for a perfect tourist destination. Athletes will take on a point-to-point swim in the Chickahominy River, followed by a bike course that navigates the rolling rural roads of scenic James City and Charles City counties and a run course that takes place on the newly completed Virginia Capital Trail. This new event offers a unique tour of the historic area with challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery. The race is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 11, 2019.

IRONMAN 70.3 Maine
Already a staple on the IRONMAN 70.3 circuit, IRONMAN 70.3 Maine takes place in the town of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Old Orchard Beach is a beautiful seven-mile strip of sandy beach that has operated for more than 170 years. The beach welcomes families and tourists alike, encouraging them to take advantage of weekly fireworks and concerts, fishing, whale watch tours, top-notch golf and more. The crown jewel of Old Orchard Beach is its pier, which stretches out nearly 500 feet over the Atlantic Ocean and serves as the start for IRONMAN 70.3 Maine. Following the exhilarating point-to-point ocean swim, the bike course will start out flat and fast before taking riders into a series of rolling hills, giving them the chance to experience the beauty of the surrounding Maine farmland and countryside. Tall pine trees provide shade over much this course. The run course is an out-and-back, two-loop course, giving athletes the chance to finish out the race on a flat and fast course that includes a portion on the hard-packed dirt of the Eastern Trail. Athletes will cross the finish line in downtown Old Orchard Beach with the support of the onlooking spectators. This race is scheduled to take place on August 25, 2019.
