CBS Sports Special Looks into the PGA TOUR’s Charitable Mission

The PGA TOUR announced an hour-long special highlighting the organization’s charitable commitment, titled PGA TOUR 2018: For the Good of the Game presented by Ascension. The show will air Sunday, July 1 at 2 p.m. ET on CBS, prior to the network’s final-round coverage of the Quicken Loans National.

Giving back is at the heart of the PGA TOUR, which has generated more than $2.6 billion all-time for charity through its tournaments and supports more than 3,000 charities each year. The special focuses on the continuing efforts of the PGA TOUR, its tournaments and players to bring hope and inspire fans and communities across the globe.

Produced by PGA TOUR Entertainment, the show will examine the many facets of the PGA TOUR’s charitable endeavors through the following topics:

Bubba Watson: After winning the MetLife MatchUp online vote in September, Watson donated half of the $1 million prize to the expansion of The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart in Pensacola, Florida, part of Ascension. The contribution followed a separate $1.6 million total donation from Watson to the Children’s Hospital. Watson leads a tour through the hospital where he was born, highlighting his dedication to the growing facility, which is naming its new entrance road Bubba Watson Drive.

Justin Thomas: Through his annual American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) event in Kentucky, Thomas gives back to the organization which benefited him as he grew up in the game. This year, the reigning FedExCup Champion endowed the organization’s ACE Grant, which helps kids, like Skylar Thompson, play in junior events across the country.  Skylar’s family has struggled to pay hospital bills since the time her mother was ill in 2015. Thanks to the ACE Grant, Skylar can continue to travel to AJGA events as she gears up for her college golf career – recently committing to the University of South Carolina.

Rickie Fowler: Few have embodied the spirit of giving back like Fowler has over his 8-year career on TOUR – not only donating funds to various charities, but his time to fans and those in need on a personal level. The 2015 PLAYERS Champion recently teamed up with Farmers Insurance and the Houston Saint Bernard Project to aid in the rebuild of homes devastated from the effects of Hurricane Harvey. Fowler joined numerous volunteers in support of the Gilbert family, whose son suffers from a congenital heart defect and will undergo a fifth heart surgery in as many years. 

Warrior Open: Integrated into the AT&T Byron Nelson, the Warrior Open honors the service of post-9/11 veterans that have both physical and emotional wounds. Attended by President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, former and current TOUR players, including Jimmy Walker, play alongside military servicemen in a Pro-Am, with a tournament held the following day.
