Cyclists who come to Solvang, in  Santa Barbara County, California, or sports event planners who are bringing groups there, will find a tool on the Solvang website that allows them to plan routes.

The routes, which can be located on Solvang’s website by clicking here (http://www.solvangusa.com/explore-solvang/what-to-do/cycling/), are tailored to balance scenic attractions and to provide an opportunity for fitness and recreation. Routes include the following:

Family Ride, which includes windmills, miniature horses and playgrounds, and is an easy ride along bike path or in bike lanes with stops for picnicking and sightseeing. The length of the ride can be as little as five miles, or up to ten miles, depending on turn-around location.

Solvang to Ballard Canyon Loop, which combines the charm of a ride through Solvang, the Alamo Pintado Valley, and the country feeling of Ballard Canyon. It is a moderately easy. 12.5 miles, with little elevation change.

Alisos Canyon Loop, a great yet demanding country ride. Strenuous; 2,200’ elevation gain, 850’ climb in Drum Canyon and 600’ in Ballard Canyon; 41.5 miles.

“Sideways” Movie Tour Locations, a challenging out and back ride from Solvang takes you north to locations used in “Sideways” and offers wine tasting opportunities. (Please drink and bike responsibly.)  This is a strenuous, 32+ miles, route with up to 1000’ elevation change.
