SBT GRVL presented by Wahoo, the premier gravel cycling event, today announced a first of its kind GRVL® Femmes Team Challenge and is opening additional spots for amateur female gravel racers to register for the sold out event on June 29, 2025. The race is 80 miles with 5600’ elevation gain and 85% gravel. The event is designed in collaboration with Zwift’s Watch the Femmes movement to create a welcoming and empowering environment for amateur female cyclists by promoting team-based racing and community support.
With this event, SBT GRVL is setting a new standard for innovation and inspiration in amateur women’s racing. Fostering a team-based approach, SBT GRVL aims to not only boost participation, but also redefine the way women experience gravel racing—together. Zwift’s support also invites women to train together on the platform leading into the event and a new SBT GRVL Zwift club will feature rides led by special guests.
The Amateur GRVL® Femmes Team Challenge will feature a team competition open to groups of three or more female riders. The race will utilize a cross-country scoring format, where the top three finishers from each team will contribute to the overall team score—the team with the lowest score wins. The format allows riders of varying abilities to race together without fear of holding back their teammates, fostering camaraderie and collective achievement.
“With the new GRVL® Femmes Team Challenge we are continuing to elevate our commitment to women’s racing at all levels. We want to inspire more women to race and give them a platform to excel while creating a strong, connected community of female cyclists,” said Amy Charity, SBT GRVL co-founder and former professional cyclist. “By creating a team structure, we’re encouraging amateur women to sign up with friends, support each other, and experience our iconic SBT GRVL event and course with the thrill of racing in a more approachable way.”
The GRVL® Femmes Team Challenge features a $3,000 prize purse for the top three fastest amateur women’s teams. Participants who prioritize camaraderie and fun over flat out speed shouldn’t be afraid to show a little flair. The group with the most cohesive or unique team uniform wins the ‘Best GRVL® Femmes Team Theme’ and will split a prize purse of $500. The GRVL® Femmes Team Challenge is also open to women who are signed up for Saturday’s ride.
“There’s never been a better time to get behind women’s cycling,” says Kate Veronneau, director of women’s strategy at Zwift. “We’re thrilled to see SBT GRVL creating new and meaningful opportunities for women in sport, and proud to partner on this exciting event. We’ll bring the full spirit of our Watch the Femmes movement to SBT GRVL this June.”
