The Eugene area continues to gain even more top-notch facilities for sports, as the Student Recreation Center at the University of Oregon is undergoing a $50 million renovation and expansion project to be completed in January 2015. The expansion will add 110,000 square feet of new space, while 40,000 square feet of existing space will be renovated. The project involves multiple sustainability enhancements, including the conversion of the old pool into a cistern for collecting water from the roof to flush toilets, and using exercise machines to generate electricity.

One of the most noticeable improvements will be the addition of an aquatics center, complete with a 12-lane lap pool, three-lane warm water recreation pool, and 16-person Whirlpool spa. New and expanded two-story locker rooms with private showers are being installed, along with an additional three-court gym (increasing capacity for sports like basketball and indoor soccer), plus new studios for cycling, exercise, and yoga, and an expanded fitness space (with twice as much space for weights and cardio).

The upgrades to the campus facility will not only provide UO students with a better experience and more options for exercise and recreation, but will offer sporting events and teams from outside the area additional venue options within the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region.
