USA Cheer and USA Weightlifting are excited to announce the continuation of their partnership that will include collaboration on events and activities that are beneficial to both organizations.

“We first partnered with them at our inaugural USA Cheer College Recruiting Combine last September in California and it was a great benefit for our attendees to explore the additional opportunities and benefits available to them in the sport of weightlifting,” said Lauri Harris, the Executive Director of USA Cheer. “We quickly realized how much the sports really complement each other.”

The first such event is the selection for the US National Coed and All Girl premier cheer teams on January 21st in Florida. USA Weightlifting will be at selections speaking with athletes and sharing information about the opportunities weightlifting can offer them. USA Weightlifting also hopes this partnership will help to identify and recruit new talent into the sport of weightlifting. Current weightlifting stars and world team members, Mattie Rogers and Jourdan Delacruz transitioned to the sport after succeeding at developing their strength, athleticism and flexibility in cheer.

“It is our hope that by collaborating with USA Cheer that we can expose explosive athletes to our sport and help our partner organization become an international powerhouse through utilization of the Olympic lifts,” said Suzy Sanchez, the Director of Grassroots Development at USA Weightlifting.

In turn, USA Weightlifting will provide strength and conditioning programming to USA Cheer’s national teams, so they are best equipped to compete on the world stage in 2019.

“USA Cheer has the best cheer athletes in the country and with USA Weightlifting’s expertise in a tailored strength and conditioning program for our national team, we know this additional focused training will prepare them even more to compete against teams from around the world this spring.”

USA Weightlifting will also have a presence at future USA Cheer College Recruiting Combines in 2019.
