‘Seen The Hunger Games? Want to Try Archery?’ Promotion Taps Into Pop Culture

USA Archery is ready to find those kids (and young adults, and not-so-young adults) who saw or read The Hunger Games, and now want to emulate Katniss Everdeen. Since one of Katniss’ skills was that of archery, USA Archery is banking on an uptick in interest.

Want a younger audience? The Pixar film, “Brave,” features another young heroine who knows her way around a bow and arrow.

A new promotion for the sport (information is found on the national governing body’s web page http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Archery/Programs/Get-Started-In-Archery.aspx) is encouraging first-timers to connect with an archery club in their area for a free introduction to the sport.

Copy from the web page reads as follows:

Whether you are brand new to archery or an avid competitor, USA Archery (USAA) offers a variety of archery programs that can help you develop or refine your archery skills.  USAA programs are designed to teach you the fundamentals of archery and assist you in progressing through various achievement levels all the way from a beginner to an Olympian!  Whatever your interest in archery, USAA has a program for you!

Whether your interest is purely recreational or an Olympic, Paralympic or World Championship dream, USA Archery's Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program is tailored to help archers achieve their goals.  JOAD Clubs offer archery instruction, a system of awards for achievements in the sport, and an introduction to competition! Adult Archery Achievement clubs also offer similar programs for adult archers at the beginner, intermediate or advanced level.

Another aspect of the NGB? If there are no archery clubs in an individual’s area, there are grants available to start one. (Information is also available on this opportunity).

Because  USA Archery and the National Field Archery Association offer a shared instructor certification program, those learning the sport for the first time are guaranteed expert tutelage.
