USA Archery Launches Virtual Tournament

What if there was a national tournament you could try, without ever leaving your local archery club? There is, and you can – and the best part of this event is that it’s now completely online, with fast results reporting.

Beginning mid-July, the quarterly Mail-In Tournament will become the quarterly Virtual Tournament, hosted entirely online at ArcheryEvents.com. Clubs will be able to post results online, and there will be easy and inexpensive online payment options.

The best parts of the Mail-In Tournament will be even better as the event becomes the Virtual Tournament: the Club Spirit Award will continue, as will the developmental and recreational aspects of this tournament. Archers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate; the Virtual Tournament is all about fun.

Likewise, this tournament is a great practice event for archers seeking opportunities to try national competition before actually venturing out from their home clubs – and experienced archers who want to see how they keep pace with top scores. Archers can prepare for state, regional and national tournaments through their participation.

New divisions have also been added for the Virtual Tournament: Masters, Collegiate and Collegiate Bowhunter have all been incorporated, as well as a Novice division for new and recreational archers, as well as those who are curious about competing.

With the Q3 Virtual Tournament, archers aged 8 to 20 can participate in an Outdoor JOAD Novice division, while the Outdoor Adult Novice division is geared towards adults who are brand new to the sport, or those who want to enjoy the sport recreationally. “Clubs have enjoyed the Mail-In Tournament for many years, integrating technology and electronic scoring into these events is the next logical step,” commented Denise Parker, USA Archery CEO. “We are excited to see the potential for nationwide participation through the virtual accommodations of this event.”

Brian Bychowski, CEO of ArcheryEvents.com, agreed: "We couldn't be more proud and excited to be working with USA Archery to facilitate virtual events. We see this as a great opportunity for clubs to expand their reach and excitement among archers, who can test their skills on a national scale without traveling."

A step-by-step tutorial is available online, and shows clubs how fast and easy it is to register for the Virtual Tournament, market their event to archers, and input scores and results. Download the step-by-step guide here.

The Q3 Virtual Tournament will offer the Club Spirit award, given to the club that demonstrates the best enthusiasm and spirit for the published theme for the quarter. For Q3, the theme is “School Pride,” and archers are encouraged to work with their club leaders to coordinate a virtual event that works with this theme.

The club whose photos demonstrate the greatest enthusiasm for the “School Pride” theme will win a banner for your Adult or JOAD program and a (40-pack) target assortment for your range! To participate in the Club Spirit competition, take photos of your club’s interpretation of the theme and send them to Jon Taylor, USA Archery’s Event Development Manager at jtaylor@usarchery.org.
