Although the Leadville Race Series, including the Trail 100 and MTB 100 were cancelled this summer, due to COVID-19, the creative folks on the Leadville team have cooked up a new challenge.

The result is the Leadville 100,000 FT Challenge‍ — a virtual climbing challenge that participants can complete on foot or by bike (or both) throughout the summer with 100 percent of proceeds from the event benefiting the Life Time Foundations' local efforts in Leadville, funding the Lake County Public School’s COVID-19 Food Relief Program.

The running 100,000 FT challenge kicked off Saturday, June 13, giving runners 10 weeks to complete the challenge. Running through the originally scheduled Leadville Trail 100 Run presented by La Sportiva date, Saturday, August 22nd, 2020.

Riders will start this Saturday, June 27, and have eight weeks to complete 100,000 feet and will end on the originally scheduled Stages Cycling Leadville Trail 100 MTB date, Saturday, August 15. There is also a Two-Person Relay option for both Ride and Run, in which combined, a pair works to completely 100K vert together.

Lastly, for the duathletes out there, the 200,000 Club is a 10-week long challenge that kicked off June 13th and ends on August 22 where participants must complete 100K or both running and cycling.

Registration is through RunSignUp. Throughout the challenge participants will track their elevation using RunSignUp, where they can view their progress on a leaderboard and Life Time encourages people to join the challenge Facebook Group to help build community conversation and maybe some healthy competition.

The Leadville team recognizes that this is a far more difficult challenge for those in flatlands compared to those in more mountainous terrain, but they are encouraging folks to get creative to hit their elevation gain (parking garage ramps, staircases, bridges, loops around a block with a steep hill, etc.).There will be additional fun merits and challenges throughout the summer, including most climbing in a day, fastest and slowest to complete the challenge, most creative elevation gain and more.
