The Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Commission (TTSC) began operations on October 1, 2010, by merging the Tuscaloosa Convention and Visitors Bureau (TCVB) and the Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation (TSF) in order to create a new agency with combined resources, experience and funding.

The TCVB previously operated under Robert Ratliff and three other staff members while the TSF was operated under Don Staley and interns. With the new agency, Ratliff serves as Executive Director of Tourism and Staley as Executive Director of the Sports Commission. Some staff members will be reassigned.

The tourism side of the TTSC will focus on bringing meetings, conventions, group tours, family reunions and films to Tuscaloosa. The sports side will continue to work towards hosting a wide variety of sporting events and maintaining current competitions, such as the High School Super Six championships and the USA Triathlon.

A new board has been appointed by the City Council with a combination of previous TCVB and TSF board members along with new appointees. The TTSC is funded by a portion of the City of Tuscaloosa's lodgings tax and by Tuscaloosa County.

"The history and success of these two organizations is truly amazing. By combining them into one, we will certainly see the positive impact on our community for many, many years to come. In this process we have created a dynamic organization poised for promoting the Tuscaloosa region at large," said TTSC board president Toby Wilson.
